OPIE

Opie, the Iowa rescue Airedale crossed with who-knows-what, is a very lucky boy these days. Opie was posted to the ATCA Coordination List as an emergency rescue. His foster home was unable to keep him longer due to a serious illness in the family.

A contact from AireCanada spotted the posting and suggested Opie to a young college student in Victoria, British Columbia, who was seeking a companion for her two-year-old Airedale. The student promptly fell in love with Opie's picture and liked what she learned about him. Transport was arranged and Opie became a Canadian citizen.

Clearly, this girl and dog connection is a match made in heaven. The student adores Opie as does her Airedale. The dogs play together and sleep curled around each other. The Airedale permits Opie to eat her food, even allowing him to take food from her mouth if he wishes. Opie, clearly deprived of affection throughout his short life, thinks his new owner is totally wonderful and prefers cuddles to treats. The student is greatly tickled by the admiring comments she receives when she walks her dogs. She proudly tells everyone that Opie is a rescue. Folks she encounters frequently want to know if he is available for adoption. She recoils in horror at such suggestions and wouldn't give him up for any amount of money.

Opie's new home is very superior. The student, although fairly young, manages dogs beautifully. Her large house is filled with dog toys and photographs of her dogs. She feeds her fur kids a highly nutritious diet and has a large fenced back yard where they may play. She lives across the street from a park where dog walkers assemble regularly to let their pets socialize. She also takes her Airedale to obedience and agility classes and means to do the same with Opie.

She is a truly remarkable young woman who feels very lucky to have been allowed to rescue Opie. However, Opie is really the lucky dog here as he as found a marvelous "forever" home where he will be loved and pampered his entire life.
